Oh Malaysia, We Are Quite Open Minded Too!

Going overseas has been eye popping..

Remember the cock shaped hot dogs from Taiwan?

Or the car sticker from Indonesia?

Yeah, I'm sure we go like - "Wow, overseas are so open minded heh". And maybe "Yeah, we will never see such of these here..".

Well, that's what I thought too.. until.. bumping into some stuff I found in (conservative) Malaysia! Haha! (close your eyes, for you Holy people!)

First, a car sticker..

Ok, sure - it's only a Quickie... like 8TV Quickie rite? So whats so open bout it rite? Haha!

Well, now, here another car sticker... I saw (and no this is not at an adult shop but a normal gift shop).

So, Jakarta, Kay El is just as Open Minded, you know!

But now, can we ever top the oh-so-open Taiwan and their hot dogs?

Well... check these make to order cakes, and you be the judge!
(Holy people, really, it's time to close your eyes..!).

There you go.. 2 visually good cakes which you can just order and have a good time! (pun intended!)

Now, who says Kay El is conservative again? :)

*The cakes are from Passionate Cakes &amp Big Boys Oven. And yes, you can order these cakes or any other 'naughtier' types you like for your special event!

*Btw talk about being open minded or conservative (whichever way you'd put it).. have you seen Celcom's advertisements in the press lately?

I Did A Birthday Surprise!

How do u make a birthday special?
That was the question that was on my mind last week.

Dinner? Hmm, thats quite common, no?

Presents? Ahh, cliche.

Movies, karaoke.. we can do that any day.

So what else? Googled a bit. But nothing much came about. Most of the suggestions were nothing special and.. boring...!

But not wanting to give up and to want to make this birthday special, I continued the Google search.. and I got this balloon idea..! Eureka!

So this is what I did. I first called up a company selling helium balloons. Did my minimum balloon order of 40.

I'm lucky cos despite the lil last minute morning call but by afternoon the balloons arrived. Seriously, I didn't believed it was 40... how could it be, when I could carry all 40 of it in one hand? But yes, it was 40 alrite.

Next get into the house.. and let the balloons fly free! That was easy of course haha! Now it feels more like a Birthday party!

To make this more memorable, I then wrote dedication notes.. and clipping them to the balloons.

Soon, the room was filled with caring & loving dediction notes flying all around.. ready for the recipient to read them, one by one!

Well, call that a Birthday Surprise or what?! :)

The outcome btw, has been awesome.

Having a room with balloons is one, but reading many notes of gratitude on your birthday, and knowing that you count in others lives is another! :)

Touched and appreciated are the keywords.. and definitely a moment to remember! And I'm proud to be the guy behind it hehe! (now, I wonder what birthday surprise I'll do next year and the years after... oh well, I'll think of something I'm sure!).

*Why don't try this out for your loved one/ friend/ family and let me know the outcome? :)

Malacca Satay: Xiang Ji

Do u like pork satay? Well, if you do, then you might have heard of Malacca's pork satay.

There used to be one very popular one many years back at Jonker's Street (opposite Geographer Cafe). But that has disappeared for a while, then reappeared back at Jonker's a good few years later.. and then moved to another location since (it's now at Kota Laksamana).

But this review is not about that satay shop. It's on the other satay that is equally good, and also quite known amongst the locals.

The shop is not far off from Jonker's. From the outside, it looks like your normal eatery.
Not really that crowded.. but don't let that fool you.

Ordering is easy. Just sit down. Order your drinks, and they will come to serve you with the satay. You don't need to tell how many sticks you'd want.. they'll figure that out.

What they will do is they will serve you as many satays, and they will top up for you too. However, you don't have to finish it... but eat what you want & can.

Unlike the counterparts like the juicy beef satays, the pork satay portion is smaller and the meat is in between crispy and fully tender. I'd prefer it to be bigger and juicier, but so far, all the pork satays I've tried tend to be so.

To me, the pork meat satay is just alrite. However, I do like the pork intestine satay here!
And of course, the peanut sauce too! The cucumber, onions & ketupat served as a side do also make this complete.

Recently they also serve otak otak though I'm not a big otak otak fan.

My overall verdict.. well, go try this satay out if you are visiting Melaka, and am a fan of pork or pork satay.
It's worth trying out once, at least. And if like me, you might come back for the pork intestine satay! :)

*The shop opens in the day (good for lunch).

Location:
50 Jalan Portugis (opposite SJK C Pay Teck, and towards the end of Temple Street)
Kampung Tiga,
Melaka

*I don't think that this is the original Jonker's Satay. It should be the other one that is. Comparing the 2, this one seems not too dry, neither too much fats in it.

More Pepper & Salt. And Fishee Too!

Last week, I took some random shots of the Thailand made pepper & salt dolls... And just yesterday, I took a few more. It was totally random.

Just couldn't help taking the cute dolls. And this time with that lil fish in the vase.

After downloading the photos & seeing them, I thought I'd create a comic/ story out of it. Yeah, cracked my head a lil and played around with the photos.. well, here goes.. (popcorn pls. hehe).

There you go.. a very simple story.. though it sure took some time to do this. But I truly enjoyed doing it!!

Anyway, hope u guys enjoyed this '2nd installment' of the Pepper & Salt (and Fishee too!) Haha!!!

Will I create more? Hmm, I wonder.. :)

*My first post on these Pepper & Salt were: Randomly Cute!
